Grays Harbor College (GHC) is looking for a collaborative, dedicated, equity-minded, dynamic, and innovative Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Extended Learning to join its Instruction Division. This position is responsible for providing leadership in transfer education, academic support services (including library, eLearning, and tutoring services), continuing education, and extended learning sites in the college’s two county district. The ideal candidate is a strong advocate for students and faculty, has teaching experience, is a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, promotes educational access, is innovative, and understands higher education administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Extended Learning is a dynamic leader and strong advocate with keen communication and collaboration skills, finding strength in partnerships and innovation. They will focus on the assessment of student learning, collaborating with faculty on methods of data collection and interpretation, and affecting continuous improvement in courses and programs. As the administrator over the majority of the college’s general education offerings, the dean is also responsible for coordinating with faculty on assessment of student learning.

The dean will be responsible for: the creation and maintenance of the annual schedule for arts and sciences offerings, as well as for the curriculum offered at the various education sites in the college’s service district; budgets; evaluations of faculty; student concerns; curriculum review; and serve as the college’s representative on statewide associations like the Articulation and Transfer Council.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for the full- and part-time faculty and staff within four academic divisions (math, science, humanities, and social science).
  • Responsible for the full- and part-time staff of the John Spellman Library, the tutoring center, and eLearning.
  • Responsible for staff in continuing education.
  • In collaboration with current staff, responsible for the full- and part-time faculty and staff at the Riverview Education Center in Raymond and the Columbia Education Center in Ilwaco.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree, or equivalent education/experience, from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • College teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting in an arts and sciences discipline.
  • Supervisory experience (department/division chair, director, etc.)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Five years of college teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting in an arts and sciences discipline.
  • Course and Program-Level Assessment experience.
  • Experience working with libraries, librarians, or learning commons.
  • Experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and a lived commitment to equity work.
  • Budget experience—developing, managing, and engaging.
  • Strong oral and written communication and organization skills.
  • Successful history of working in a union environment.
  • Experience in a multi-campus environment.
  • Experience with small, rural colleges.
  • Sense of humor and is on “Team Oxford Comma”.
