ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES DIVISION

POSITION: Dean, Liberal Arts & Sciences

Description of Duties: Recruit, recommend, schedule, support and evaluate full-time Faculty who instruct academic programs, including: Liberal Arts; Art; English; Foreign/Modern Language; Journalism; Music; Philosophy; Speech/Drama; Criminal Justice; Family Services and Child Care; Health and Sports Sciences; Geography; History; Political Science; Pre-Education; Psychology; Secondary Education; and Sociology. Collaborate with the Associate Deans to recommend Adjunct Faculty appointments. Skillfully manage and evaluate Professional and Classified staff assigned to the Liberal Arts Division. Recommend/allocate resources as budget manager. Develop and forward the annual budget for review and approval. Approve changes in curriculum and program development as presented by Faculty. Collaborate with Faculty and other educational entities, such as other divisions and institutions, in order to prioritize maintenance of quality programs on-campus and online. Coordinate developmental education resources that provide pre-collegiate work in areas such as English and Reading. Represent the Division by serving on various Campus committees, as well as on applicable statewide and local committees focused on Liberal Arts related disciplines. Foster and support new and creative ideas, collaborative learning, innovative pedagogy and Faculty development in a positive, community environment within the scope of the College’s mission. Cultivate a student-friendly environment and assist in resolving student issues and providing advisement assistance. Support retention efforts within the Division and the Campus. Collaborate with two and four year higher education institutions. Teach three (3) credit hours annually. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Liberal Arts or related field as compared to the disciplines offered within the Liberal Arts Division. Three years experience teaching at the college level in a related field or three years combined college teaching experience in a related field and administrative experience. Experience in preparing annual departmental budgets. Ability to interpret College's policies and procedures. Demonstrated clear and concise oral/written communication and conflict resolution skills. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Light lifting up to 10 lbs and light carrying up to 10 lbs required. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Ability to reach above shoulder.

Desired Qualifications: Doctorate Degree in Liberal Arts or related field as compared to the disciplines offered within the Liberal Arts Division. Three years experience teaching at a community college or three years combined community college teaching experience and higher education administration experience. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design for various delivery systems and experience with assessment of campus and online instruction. Experience in strategic planning/implementation on a departmental or divisional level. Demonstrated collaborative efforts between education and/or community entities.
