The Admissions Counselor will represent the University at high school and community college visits, virtually and on-campus events.  Travel will consist of both in-state and out-of-state; maintaining positive communication with prospective students, parents, and counselors regarding admission policies and student admission status; attending all joint recruitment programs as assigned by Director of Admissions. Primary responsibility includes participating in all aspects of recruitment, application review, and participation in outreach services.


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop positive relationships with high school and college counselors and disseminate accurate and timely information related to admission.
  • Participate in student recruitment programs as an admissions counselor, meeting with prospective students and their families to provide accurate information, advice, and counsel regarding application, student admission, and enrollment process.  
  • Communicate and explain admission policies and decisions to applicants, parents, and school officials.
  • Counsel ineligible students on educational alternatives and explain negative admission decisions.
  • Represent the University at “Career Day” and “College Night” programs, as assigned.
  • Represent the University at National College Fairs and other regional college fairs sponsored by a variety of agencies, as assigned.
  • Represent the Office of Admissions at various on-campus recruiting functions including, “Accepted Student Receptions,” “Counselor Visitation Days,” “Science and Technology Open House,” and all other on-campus programs, as assigned by Director of Admissions.  
  • Represent the Office of Admissions by conducting, but not limited to, personal interviews of prospective students, presentations to large groups of prospective students and their parents, and counselor conferences via zoom or in-person when permitted. 
  • Actively participate in diversity recruitment efforts.
  • Conduct active follow-up recruitment of individuals identified as particularly sought-after prospects (honors, minority; “at-risk”), utilizing oral and written correspondence. 
  • Review, evaluate, process, and electronically file undergraduate admission applications.
  • Create electronic folders in admissions share drive for all incoming students.
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of all recruitment activities (high school visits and college fairs, virtual college tours, phone logs etc.) and submit on request to Director of Admissions for purpose of reporting and evaluating data. 

 

Requirements

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:   

A bachelor’s degreetwo years of experience working in admissions, recruitment, or a similar role.  A valid driver's license is required. Extensive travel and driving are necessary.
