Job Summary:
Stay Work Play New Hampshire seeks an Executive Director to lead this statewide nonprofit working to make New Hampshire a place where young people want to - and can - Stay, Work, and Play.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of Stay Work Play and oversees the development, growth, and implementation of the organization’s mission, programs, and budget. The Executive Director also serves as the organization’s key spokesperson and as an advocate for the attraction and retention of young people in New Hampshire.

Work environment:

This is a fully remote position that does require regular statewide travel, including evenings. Successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Organization:

Founded in 2009, Stay Work Play New Hampshire is a statewide, 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to attract and retain more young people in the Granite State. We do this via:

  • Promotion of New Hampshire as a place of opportunity for young people;
  • Data collection with regard to how young people feel about life in New Hampshire, including what makes them stay and why they might leave.
  • Non-partisan, issues-based advocacy on public policy issues affecting the attraction and retention of young Granite States.
  • Connection of young people to each other, employers, and the state itself via events, programs, and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals in the organization's 2024-2026 strategic plan.
  • Actively engage and energize Board of Directors and Board of Advisors members, other funders, committees, partnering organizations, volunteers, and community leaders in the mission.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; seek and build Board involvement on the implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress and measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.

Fundraising & Finances:

  • Build annual fundraising plans and organizational expense budget to meet goals; monitor and track success in meeting goals, and stay within budget.
  • Maintain and grow the Board of Advisors, a group of New Hampshire employers that support the organization financially.
  • Engage, cultivate, and steward sponsors of the organization's signature annual event, the Rising Stars Awards, as well the other events, series, and initiatives undertaken by the organization.
  • Further promote and develop the Rising Stars Leadership Program by seeking applicants and sponsorships.
  • Grow the still-new Stay Work Play membership program aimed at individual donors.
  • Pursue grant opportunities to support the organization and its endeavors.
  • Identify additional areas of fundraising growth and opportunities for expansion.

Strategic initiatives:

  • Develop and execute a non-partisan, issues-based advocacy platform benefitting young people in New Hampshire.
  • Oversight of a quality of life survey, conducted every three years, evaluating issues important to young people in New Hampshire.
  • Manage and collaborate with the organization’s Communications & Events Manager to continue successfully advancing the organization’s strategic marketing and communications strategy to enhance the brand and reputation of Stay Work Play among policymakers, key business and community leaders, and young people across the state

Year One Critical Success Factors:

In the first year, the Executive Director will collaborate with the Board of Directors to effectively:

  • Evaluate Stay Work Play’s current portfolio of events and programming and recommend changes that reflect the best use of staff resources and mission impact.
  • Analyze the organization’s staffing model to determine the right structure and resources needed to effectively accomplish the mission.
  • Operate the organization in a fiscally responsible manner that achieves budgeted goals and builds long-term financial sustainability.
  • Proactively build relationships with key business and community leaders, the state's young professionals networks, elected officials, corporate sponsors, and Board of Advisors members that position Stay Work Play as a respected thought leader on workforce issues and youth attraction and retention across the state.
  • Develop a positive working relationship with staff, providing support and strong leadership.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit that would both thrive working with a close team, as well as take a project and develop it as one’s own
  • Ability to manage and bring to completion multiple projects and tasks
  • Experience in developing strategies and plans
  • Ability to apply successful fundraising and networking techniques
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills

Required qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of related experience

Salary

Salary for this position will range from $80,000 – $90,000. EOE.
