Montgomery College, Central Services Building, has an immediate need for a Full-time Senior Research Analyst in the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. The weekly work schedule is 5 days /40 hours. This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt, Grade 31 position. Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Project manager for research initiatives, defining project scope with internal and external stakeholders, establishing project goals, and determining tasks, and resource requirements. This includes the conception of the research design, gathering and transforming data into a usable form, analyzing the data, interpreting the information produced, discussing the findings with appropriate College personnel, communicating this information in writing, and producing the final reports, including tables, charts, interactive data visualizations, etc., and presenting the finished reports to the College community, where appropriate.
  • Extracts data from the College’s information systems and external data sources to: support the College’s strategic plan; respond to internals and external requests for data and information; support grant application, administration, and evaluation.
  • Ensures data accuracy and timely update of institutional research data and information in response to cyclical reporting requirements. Develop and manage project timelines and deadlines to ensure the accurate and timely submission of mandated reports to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), the Federal Government, and other accrediting agencies and associated organizations.  
  • Design, plan, organize, manage, and conduct varied research projects and ensure that projects are effectively executed from the beginning to completion. This includes prepare written analysis with charts, graphs, and tables, and publish institutional research reports as information and to inform decisions.
  • Design, manage, and conduct studies that track, for example, student success on  varied metrics over time  or evaluate the status of collegewide student assessment, placement, and developmental activities to inform future planning, applying project management methodologies to oversee these types of initiatives.
  • Assists with enrollment projections to inform the budget cycle. This includes gathering and analyzing student enrollment data and other internal and external factors that impact College enrollment. Discuss projections with college executive management for input and adjust as necessary.
  • Serve as project lead and consultant to faculty, staff, administrators, and students on special research projects, to guide research design, survey design, survey development, survey administration, data collection, data analysis, reporting, and publication.
  • Serve as lead on collegewide data governance initiative. Act as project manager and work with data stewards from various college units to develop expectations, create a process for the documentation of data and data sources, management of project timelines, and deadlines. Support IT Reporting Group for data mart maintenance and content revision to improve data integrity and ensure data quality. Collaborate with IT and other offices to resolve data issues and to develop new reports.
  • Serve as a representative for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and the College at various internal and external meetings, on internal and external committees, and effectively communicating project statuses and outcomes.
  • Serve as non-voting resource person for Montgomery College’s Institutional Review Board.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a social science related program such as Psychology, Sociology, Communications, or Business or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. Formal training in research design, statistics, presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data in context is also required.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in querying and retrieving information from large databases, working with relational databases, and data analysis and presentation of results in tabular, narrative, and graphical formats.

  • Prior work experience in a higher education environment working with academic and administrative constituents is preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence with statistical analysis software (SPSS, SAS, R), Microsoft Suite (Excel, Access, Power Point, Word, Publisher, and Power BI).
  • Application of project management practices to organize and manage workgroups and workflows related to data collection, data governance, and the ability to lead, plan, and execute research projects to support the strategic plan and collegewide initiatives.
  • Knowledge and application of principles of research design, descriptive, parametric, and non-parametric statistical analysis techniques, and project management methodologies.
  • Excellent consultative skills with the ability to engage and coordinate with internal and external constituents (administrators, faculty, staff, students, public school systems, colleges and universities, state and federal government).
  • Knowledge of web survey platforms to conduct survey research.
  • Knowledge of principles of narrative, tabular, and graphical presentation of research results, including interactive data visualizations via Tableau/Power BI.
  • Critical thinking, the ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, problem-solve, and capable of working within tight timelines.

Salary range: $76,679 –- $122,664/annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($76,679 - $99,671/annually), based on experience and internal equity.
