Job Summary:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated intern PhD student to join our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group in San Diego, CA. The successful candidate will use LCMS Methods for selectivity analysis on protein targets. Specific goals for this position include the identification of signature peptides of protein of interest, optimization of proteolytic digestion conditions and sample preparation conditions to yield maximum desired peptides, and optimization of the LC-MS/MS conditions necessary to develop, produce a robust and reproducible bioanalytical method in disease-relevant cells or preclinical species and perform bioinformatics analysis of the results. They will be fully immersed in the day-to-day operations of a drug discovery group. An ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, has a strong drive to learn new things and thrives in both independent and team roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform compound treatment in cells and cell harvesting
- Perform proteomics sample preparation
- Use LC-MS to analyze samples
- Analyze LC-MS raw data using proteomics software
- Perform bioinformatics analysis for the results
- Interpret and present the results
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. student in Biological or Chemical Sciences plus minimum of 3 years experience in proteomics field.
- Experience in mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics (TMT, SILAC, PRM or LFQ)
- Experience analyzing and interpreting LC-MS data using custom, public, and commercially available software suites, like Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, DIA-NN
- Must be proficient with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graph Pad Prism, and other scientific software, R or Phython
- Attention to detail in documenting, executing and analyzing experiment
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
- Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2025
- Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from June - September 2025
Program Dates: June - September 2025, Full Time
Pay Range $33.00 - $50.00 USD/hour
