Operations and Event Manager

Job Description

OPERATIONS AND EVENT MANAGER, Open Space Programming, to manage MIT Welcome Center staffing, operations, and event bookings.  Will ensure smooth, efficient day-to-day Welcome Center operations, working closely with MIT Admissions; coordinate staffing for the desk and provide backup coverage as needed; continually find ways to improve processes and the visitor experience; coordinate training for desk staff; coordinate operational and logistical projects with a range of internal/external colleagues; address facility, custodial, or systems issues that arise; take the lead on ensuring that Welcome Center AV is in good working order; convene quarterly meetings with MIT stakeholders working in the immediate area; manage event bookings for the center, responding to inquiries, coordinating with event managers to ensure they run smoothly, and following up after events; and handle other duties/special projects as assigned.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; two years’ related experience; excellent organizational, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills; experience working with the public, managing a team, setting work schedules, and mentoring staff; support for Open Space Programming’s committed to inclusive practices and meaningful community engagement; team-orientation; attention to detail; good judgment and tact; ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and quickly learn and follow processes in a fast-paced environment; interest in public programs and community engagement; willingness to learn MIT processes/systems; and ability to move items weighing up to 25 lbs.  Seek a proactive team player who can work with minimal supervision; holds themselves accountable for following up on tasks; and can demonstrate flexibility when there is a need to change, reprioritize, or shift focus/goals.  PREFERRED: STEAM education and/or public programs experience, and familiarity with MIT and/or Cambridge.  Job #24244-7

This role requires working a flexible schedule, including regular nights and weekends work for programs and events and regular business hours on non-event days. This is an on-site role with one day of remote work possible.
