APL seeks an attorney to support the EEO Office within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).

 

As the Deputy EEO Officer/Accommodations Officer and a Senior Associate General Counsel...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Principal EEO Officer/Accommodations Officer with implementing and administering the Laboratory’s EEO and Accommodations policies, including reviewing reports/requests/submissions and investigating alleged policy violations. APL’s EEO Policy prohibits discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on protected EEO characteristics.
  • You will review and adjudicate workplace accommodation requests from physically or mentally disabled or pregnant staff. You also will adjudicate religious accommodation requests from staff seeking additional flexibilities supporting religious observance.
  • As part of this responsibility, you will analyze complaints, determine appropriate jurisdiction, develop investigative plans, conduct fact-finding and necessary legal research, interview involved staff members, and prepare confidential reports of investigation (ROI) and accompanying correspondence. You also may assist with populating EEO and Accommodation databases.
  • You will assist in responding to government investigations and queries as appropriate.
  • You will assist the EEO Office in administering APL's EEO program in a matrixed environment.
  • You will assist the EEO/Accommodations Office with creating, developing, and presenting to all levels across the Lab on EEO or Accommodations policy and procedures.
  • You will research legal developments related to EEO and accommodations and keep the Principal EEO Officer/Accommodations Officer apprised of changes in federal laws and policies to help ensure the Laboratory's compliance, and make recommendations to improve or enhance existing policies and their implementation.
  • You will work on-site an average of at least three days per week.
  • You will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school or equivalent, are admitted to practice law in one or more U.S. jurisdictions, and are in good standing in that jurisdiction(s).
  • Have at least three (3) years of directly applicable experience, including at least one (1) year conducting investigations and writing case reports related to compliance with federal, state, or local anti-discrimination laws and regulations.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, mediation skills, and empathy working with employees at all experience levels and from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.
  • Possess solid legal and practical research skills.
  • Possess the ability to think critically and make clear and well-reasoned decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Have demonstrated strong organizational skills, a flexible work style and schedule, and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple challenging projects in a demanding work environment.
  • Have demonstrated unquestionable integrity, excellent judgment, discretion, and an ability to establish rapport with individuals who are wrestling with varied challenges and in stressful situations.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You will go above and beyond our expectations if you:

  • Have an EEO Professional Certificate, Diversity and Inclusion Professional Certificate, or similar accreditation.
  • Have experience working with and evaluating medical documentation.
  • Have knowledge of research and development activities in a government contracting setting.
  • Have experience working as a project manager or at an equivalent level of responsibility.
