Assistant Controller - Senior Level

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Corporate Accounting team in one of our Los Angeles area offices. As part of the Accounting Group, the Assistant Controller works with the Corporate Controller to support all accounting department functions; Manages the daily operations of the accounting department; monitors and analyzes accounting data and produce financial reports; establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies, and principles; leads the team to achieve higher quality and efficiency.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting functions including month-end and year-end process, reconciliations, cash receipts, accounts payable, journal entries review and posting, fixed assets, equity, and cash flow forecasting
  • Manage accounting team members to perform accounting functions and ensure financial data accuracy and integrity, and in compliance with GAAP and other required governances
  • Mange to produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports on consolidated basis and stand-alone basis
  • Manage to produce board report package and shareholder report package quarterly
  • Perform variance and trend analysis on financial data to identify issues and/or inefficiencies
  • Coordinate with external auditors to complete year end financial audits, overhead audits, and project audits
  • Design and improve accounting procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency
  • Lead financial review with operational managers and upper management
  • Assisting with tax compliance efforts including transfer pricing study and R&D credit study
  • Lead the team to maintain and improved internal controls and policies
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; required
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance; preferred
  • CPA certification; highly preferred
  • 10+ years or more of related accounting experience and 5+ years of managerial experience; required
  • Public accounting experience preferred but not required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP; required
  • Experience working for an Engineering, Construction, or Architect company highly preferred
  • FAR audit preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in accounting software and excel; required
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation); required
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$193,500 to $236,500 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

Working conditions:

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
