Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

University Human Resources (UHR) has an exciting opportunity for an HR professional to serve as a Classification and Compensation Consultant on the Classification and Compensation team, a part of the UHR Talent Management team. In partnership with the Assistant Director of Classification and Compensation, UHR leaders and campus unit leaders, the Classification and Compensation Consultant is responsible for conducting compensation reviews and analyses for new hires, reclassifications and promotions to ensure pay equity. Create new job descriptions as needed. The incumbent will serve as a representative for UMD on the USM Classification and Compensation Committee and work with other USM institutions to develop new non-exempt job specifications. Meet with HR Partners on a regular basis to develop strong relationships and educate and influence campus regarding Classification and Compensation matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: 
  • Five (5) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of compensation, classification or recruitment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory, compliance, and employment laws. Including FLSA, ADA, 503B and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively written and verbally.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders and practitioners at all levels.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide insight and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to facilitate problem solving and approach client issues from a solution-oriented stance.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and work effectively under pressure with multiple deliverables.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize risks and issues and evaluate competing needs, while maintaining confidentiality.

Preferences:

  • SHRM-CCP, HRCI-PHR, or other relevant certification.
  • Experience in a large, complex, and decentralized organization.
  • Experience with Workday.
  • Classification and compensation experience within higher education.
  • Familiarity with USM classification systems both exempt and non-exempt.

Physical Demands:

This is an office position that adheres to a standard work week. The majority of time is spent sitting at a desk at a computer workstation, however this position will also travel to other areas of campus/off-campus as needed to provide customer service/training.
