As the Vice President of Human Resources Operations you will actively participant in making strategic decisions affecting Bethany Christian Services. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the HR functional areas of business partnership, employee relations, total rewards, performance management, learning and development, employee wellness, employee engagement, recognition and rewards, and compliance with fair labor standards. This individual will ensure that HR Operations are innovative, equitable, and compliant.

The VP of HR Operations will also lead a team of HR professionals to support the agency’s business operations, as well as the overall mission and strategic objectives. This role will play a crucial part in empowering the advancement of employees and developing strategy around employee retention.

This position is expected to function effectively with little supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Embraces the values and identity of Bethany and effectively role models the expected behaviors;
  • Serves as a trusted partner to all facets of the agency through the provision of Human Resources services;
  • Effectively applies the defined vision and strategic goals for Human Resources that support the agency’s mission, culture, and objectives;
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and overall direction to a team of HR professionals to support the agency’s overall mission and strategic goals;
  • Provides support, training, and feedback to direct report staff to ensure proper professional development and growth, as well as met performance deliverables;
  • Function as an active member of the HR leadership team regarding process improvement, and strategic planning;
  • Provide leadership and direction for the design of Bethany’s compensation and benefits programs ensuring the programs are competitive and equitable, while also aligned with the culture and strategic objectives;
  • Serves as a strategic partner in the implementation and management of a human resources information system (HRIS) capable of delivering high quality human resources reporting and analysis against both internal and external requirements;
  • Drives focus on the development of policies and procedures that minimize risks to the agency, optimize efficiency and promote effective partnerships and strong working relationships;
  • Oversee the maintenance and updating of the Employee Handbook in accordance with company practices and governing federal, state, and local employment laws;
  • Investigate best practices and recommend new and/or update HR policies, practices, and guidelines across HR Operations areas;
  • Correspond with external legal counsel for legal litigation, when needed;
  • Addresses gaps in service and delivery of human resource programs and initiatives in a timely fashion;
  • Assists the Chief People Officer in developing the Human Resource budgets, ensures sound financial decisions are made in line with constraints and consistently uses financial measures to evaluate business decisions and positioning;
  • Manages to the Balanced Scorecard with clear and measurable targets that are cascaded to and understood by the Human Resources team;
  • Applies knowledge of human resources policies and procedures including federal, state and local labor laws to balance legal requirements with business needs and to provide risk assessments;
  • Ensures audits are conducted on all relevant programs, policies and procedures agency-wide and addresses any compliance issues immediately;
  • Support the organization’s ongoing accreditation through the Council on Accreditation (COA) and other relevant accrediting bodies;
  • Leads the development of a safe environment where staff is comfortable raising and sharing confidential issues and information;
  • Drive continuous improvement in the area of recognition and rewards to ensure employee engagement across all site locations within Bethany;
  • In partnership with the appropriate colleagues, forecasts people related business needs and translates these into executable action plans;
  • Leads the development of an environment where employee development, engagement and satisfaction levels are maximized;
  • Works with the leadership team to identify training and development requirements and ensures appropriate supports and systems, internal and external, are in place to drive staff competency and proficiency in program delivery and process improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date on employee engagement and talent development trends, and propose the appropriate recommendations to the agency that define Bethany as an employer of choice;
  • Stay abreast of all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements related to employment law;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s level degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or equivalent field of study; a combination of education and experience will be considered for those with secondary education or higher;
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR Certification preferred;
  • At least eight (8) years of successfully progressive Human Resources experience and at least five (5) years serving in a senior leadership capacity with an emphasis on setting direction, executing goals, and providing coaching to inspire success;
  • At least five (5) years of experience working in a highly matrixed, complex organization; experience in nonprofit organizations, strongly preferred;
  • Strong understanding of employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices;
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to align HR Operations initiatives with overall business strategy;
  • Keen sense of innovation, influence and problem-solving skills required; must be able to work with all levels of Bethany employees;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable making cogent, high impact presentations to audiences of all sizes and types that motivate action;
  • Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
  • Exercise a high level of confidentiality;
  • Work well under pressure and adaptable to change;
  • Possess strong critical and analytical thinking skills with proven results from strong judgement and negotiation skills;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to professionally and enthusiastically interact with all levels of the organization;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, accountability, integrity, and ethical behaviors;
  • Must possess an ability to successfully manage multi-departmental projects, priorities, and timelines with minimal supervision;
  • Advanced knowledge of SharePoint and HRIS systems (UKG preferred);
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith and Mission Statement.
