As a member of the Student Financial Services team, the Accountant I (part-time) assists with data entry, cashiering and customer service. The position also supports general office management and enrollment functions including processing forms and specialized duties related to financial aid and student billing.

Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • General maintenance of the Intercept Program, which consists of analyzing daily reports, examining accounting records to update the Intercept Program, confirming accounting records to update voucher requests for monies collected from Intercept and applying those payments to the students' accounts.
  • Correspond with various personnel connected with STCC, State Treasury and Collection Agencies regarding reducing principal balances, closing accounts and refunds of payments and processing fees associated with Intercept collections.
  • Prepare reports consisting of students' outstanding balances to be transmitted to Collection Services for active collections.
  • Provide quality customer service at all times when responding to inquiries in-person, over the telephone, and through email.
  • Maintain accounting records for current and prior accounts receivable in order to answer any questions from students, faculty and staff.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts and generate reports.
  • Cashiering/processing of tuition payments (including cash, checks, and credit cards)
  • Daily reconciliation of payment activity (including reconciliation reports)
  • Distribution of refund and payroll checks to students, faculty and staff
  • Third party billing
  • Must possess the ability to respond appropriately in a changing office environment while maintaining the focus required to see a task to conclusion.

  • Demonstrates 100% time-on-task; adheres to college and routine office procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in college, division, department meetings, events and training as recommended and approved by the supervisor.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, college committees, work groups and task forces, and other professional organizations as approved by the supervisor.
  • Serves a direct backup to front office staff during high volume and peak periods; including coverage of breaks and lunches (as needed).
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those listed above which do not alter the basic level of the position.

Job Requirements:
  • Associates degree, or a higher degree; Three years or more experience in a busy office environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in management of financial transactions, customer service or higher education, information management, etc.
  • Familiarity with a higher education environment, information management software and a demonstrated ability to manage projects to completion within an organization are preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and Gmail, and the ability to learn new software and other skills as needed.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Works in an office setting. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The individual needs to move about inside the office to access office machinery. Constantly operates a computer and other equipment i.e. copier. This person frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information


Additional Information:


Salary: $18 per hour. 18.5 hours per week, requires flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as demand dictates. Proposed Schedule: Monday, 9-3:30 pm, Wednesday, 9-3 pm, Friday, 9-3 pm.
