Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of DevOps, the Director of Application Services plays a pivotal role in orchestrating the strategic direction and operational efficiency of the institution’s application ecosystem and leads the Enterprise, Core, Web, and Rapid applications teams as well as the Database Administration and Enterprise Process and Content Services teams.

 

This position oversees the design, development, implementation, integration, and maintenance of diverse application systems and ensures seamless functionality across academic and administrative departments.

 

This position may require occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

 

Essential Functions         

  • Leads strategic analysis, decision making, and communication to the AVP of DevOps.
  • Defines architecture, development, and document standards.
  • Works with business analysts, project teams, and other IT members to ensure a consistent technical vision across DevOps Apps.
  • Collaborates with leadership and business partners on process analyses, strategic planning initiatives, and programs to align with the overall IT and University strategic goals and business initiatives.
  • Ensures team awareness of and familiarity with industry standards and reviews deliverables to ensure they meet expectations and are consistent with IT standards.
  • Identifies areas of improvement in client’s business models and decision-making frameworks and integrates new business processes and application designs based on project and industry experience.
  • Oversees management and administration of enterprise application systems, core application systems, Web and Rapid Application Development systems and programs, database administration, workflow applications, and digital transformation strategies.
  • Provides oversight and guidance on the implementation of complex technical projects, such as system migrations, upgrades, or integrations, ensuring alignment with university objectives and timelines.
  • Monitors and evaluates emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies in application development, deployment, and management, recommending adoption strategies and investment priorities to senior leadership.

Management Responsibilities   

Provides strategic leadership and supervises others who supervise. Responsible for hiring, training, developing, managing performance, administering corrective action, makes compensation decisions and for managing strategic views at a high level.

 

Additional Functions       

Facilitates knowledge-sharing sessions, workshops, and training programs to empower staff members with the skills, tools, and techniques needed to succeed in their roles and advance their careers.

 

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience         

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years leading IT application development with progressively increasing management responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing technical staff.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills       

  • Knowledge of enterprise-level information technology systems (including ERP, CRM), cloud computing models, information technology audit and information security procedures, business processes, various operating systems.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and maintain complex activities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Working knowledge Google Suite, MS Office Suite (Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio), TeamDynamix
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Master’s degree in business, management, or technology.
  • Significant experience in an application development solutions provider environment.
  • Strong understanding of technical, business, and cultural environment of higher education in general and Fordham in particular.
  • Familiarity with the OWASP top ten.
  • Offensive or defensive security certifications.
  • Hands-on experience managing large websites with a distributed authoring base.
  • Experience with User Portals, UI/UX design.
  • Knowledge of federated authentication frameworks.
  • Familiarity with physical security systems.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $132,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $165,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
