The Core Motion team has built innovative ways for users to improve their health, or watch for their lives, with their devices through motion. This team combines machine learning, signal processing, innovative study design and expertise in biomechanics and biomedical sciences to deliver important features like Fall Detection, Walking Steadiness, and the Apple Heart and Movement Study. Our ever-evolving suite of features in iPhone, Watch and beyond have helped customers stay healthy and active, track their recovery from surgery, monitor medical conditions like Parkinson's, and screen user's cardiovascular health through real-world exercise tests. We are a dynamic, collaborative group that works at the intersection of scientific research and product development. We deliver science-backed designs of best-in-class motion algorithms that capture even the subtlest of human movements straight to our customers to empower them to better understand their movement health.

Description

In this position, you will be working on motion health technologies. Roles and responsibilities include: - Collecting and analyzing data for prototype feature development in specialized mobility labs - Designing, implementing and maintaining algorithms and APIs for iOS and watchOS on embedded systems - Optimizing implementations for power, memory and performance - Close coordination with multidisciplinary teams across the company - Working closely with scientists, engineers, QE, and project managers throughout the software lifecycle in successfully delivering best-in-class secure and scalable systems Most importantly, you will help ship interactive features that impact millions of users on a daily basis. Key Qualifications

  • Background in Machine Learning/Statistical Modeling, Computer Vision
  • Experienced and intuitive understanding of musculoskeletal biomechanics, engineering mechanics, inertial sensing
  • Enthusiasm for health tracking technology
  • Strong working knowledge of Python, MATLAB, OpenSim or equivalent
  • Familiarity with musculoskeletal modeling, 3D motion capture, instrumented force/pressure measurements, electromyography (EMG) a plus
  • Experience with C++ a plus


Education & Experience

PhD or 5+ years research experience in Mechanical Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or related field with relevant domain knowledge. Coursework or experience in some of the following: signal processing, biomechanics, machine learning, controls, dynamics, statistics, programming.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (written and verbal).
  • You are upbeat, adaptable, and results oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with biomechanics, physiological modeling a plus.
  • Experience with C++ a plus.


Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,500 and $243,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
