We are seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor to assist in providing leadership, vision, and strategic guidance to a team of ~20 security professionals charged with the oversight of various security support roles. Security Services Department (SECD) ZPS is responsible for managing enterprise security services regarding SAP/SCI conference facilities, Physical Security, SAPF/SCIF construction, training, compliance, and space and allocation management.

 

As the Assistant Group Supervisor of Security Services Department (SECD) ZPS, you will... 

  • Primarily be responsible to work with group management to lead and mentor ~20 security professionals delivering various security services to the Laboratory in various capacities. Help develop strategy, provide direction, maintain budget, and implement plans to meet the ZPS group and department objectives. Build strong and effective working relationships with leadership across APL to improve/maintain positive customer satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership to section supervisors regarding all aspects of managing their staff, including recruiting, on-boarding, retention, tasking, coaching and career counseling, as well as salary and performance management.
  • Provide expertise in all security functions in accordance with the 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM), DoD Manuals 5205.07 Vols. I-IV, 5105.21 Vols I-III, 5200.01 Vols I-IV, ICD 705, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) or equivalent agency policy and executive orders, all with emphasis on Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security requirements, to make decisions regarding enterprise conference facility management, SAPF/SCIF construction, security compliance, and training.
  • Work closely with the Group Supervisor to design, develop, and implement group wide initiatives focused on increasing operations efficiencies and building a more collaborative, innovative work environment with a strong team culture. Assist with Group’s budget to ensure spending is within targets while managing workload and coverage.
  • Interact directly with Lab Executive Leadership Team to identify challenges, collaborate, propose solutions, and execute.
  • Liaise with Sector and Department leadership to foster relationships and identify potential opportunities to collaborate and improve services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational requirements.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you have...

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Systems, Industrial Security or other relevant field. Any combination of equivalent level of relevant IT or security-related experience and/or education may be substituted.
  • Possess 12+ years of relevant security-related work experience (i.e. Program Security Officer/CPSO/GSSO/SSO/Contractor Special Security Officer/Special Security Representative/PSR/Program Security Specialist) and have the ability to evaluate, interpret and implement security requirements and government security regulations (i.e. Executive Orders, ICDs, CFR 32, Part 117, DoD Policies, Instructions, and Manuals – or agency equivalent policies – and understanding of RMF, OPSEC and COMSEC principles).
  • Possess excellent organizational/communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels. Must maintain appropriate relationships between leadership in the security department as well as the principals in the supported organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow teams of diverse skillsets.
  • Demonstrated skills in: leadership, strategic thinking, hiring, team and culture building, coaching, performance management and complex problem solving.
  • Are self-motivated with exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills, possessing the ability to establish relationships and effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats with all levels of staff.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Have a Master's Degree in Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Maintain security certifications such as SFPC, SAPPC, SPIPC, SPSC, CISSP, or Security+, etc.
  • Have a thorough understanding of DoD and government organizational structures.
  • Are experienced working in an organization with reporting responsibilities to multiple sponsors/authorities.
  • Possess knowledge of Cybersecurity/Information Assurance and RMF
  • Possess expert knowledge of Physical Security construction standards in accordance with ICD 705 Technical Specifications
