Overview

 

The Research Technician position in Dr. Edward Chouchani’s Lab will assist scientists in performing scientific research with laboratory animals of varying complexity. Duties include maintaining mouse colonies, genotyping, animal handling, injections, animal phenotyping, xenograft tumor studies and general assistance with mouse studies. There will be continuous learning opportunities and the position will be a good stepping stone for those interested in biomedical research with an animal and in vivo focus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of Chouchani Lab animal (laboratory mouse) colony, including weaning, tail biopsies, DNA preparation and genotyping by PCR. 
  • Maintenance of Chouchani lab animal protocols.
  • Animal phenotyping.
  • Performing/ assisting with animal studies which might include injections, xenograft models, exercise models.
  • Ordering of laboratory mice and consumables for animal studies.
  • General management of animal related work in the lab.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree with scientific specialty is required (or obtained in Spring 2024). 
  • Must be willing to work with laboratory mice.
  • Previous experience working laboratory mice is required.
  • Must be self-motivated and an independent worker with excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • At least two years of commitment is required.
