The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Specialist supports the DE&I Program Manager and partners closely with other key stakeholders in implementing the Hospitals DE&I strategic initiatives. The DE&I Specialist will administer organizational DE&I initiatives and programs that aim to cultivate an equitable and inclusive environment for historically underrepresented employees, patients, and families. Supports development of relevant materials and collateral including educational materials, marketing collateral, intranet websites, application and survey forms. Provides support to DE&I governance groups, committees, and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). The Specialist will be accountable for supporting communications and increasing awareness of organizational DE&I initiatives, programs, and progress.

 

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • In collaboration with the DE&I Program Manager, supports DE&I programs and initiatives that align with the hospital¿s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic priorities. This includes advancing efforts, planning, scheduling, delivering, and maintaining programs and events in partnership with the DE&I Council, DE&I Committees, Employee Resource Groups, and other governance structures.

  • Assists and supports research of key, relevant DE&I topics. Works with Program Manager to integrate research findings into DE&I learning topics/materials to advance DE&I strategy at Stanford Children¿s Health.

  • Works with Program Manager and other key stakeholders on planning and developing DE&I learning activities such as workshops, trainings, guest speakers, etc. Assists in the design, development and delivery of training, workshops and seminars on diversity, equity and inclusion topics.

  • Conducts assessment on Employee Resource Group (ERG) requests ensuring the validity and feasibility in addressing the request based on program charter, precedent, and organizational climate. Supports and guides existing Employee Resource Groups by developing discussion topics and following up on action items.

  • Reviews and prioritizes requests for DE&I visibility amplification assuring there are no conflicts based on related DE&I/ERG events/communications. Ensures that communications are released in a timely manner and that they support/align with schedules of events.

  • Participates on appropriate committees relevant to the advancement of the program and the profession. Serves as a representative on various hospital committees, projects, task forces, etc. as applicable.

  • Coordinates regular DE&I communication materials including developing, creating, and/or maintaining hospital-wide materials, employee messages, announcements, executive communications, intranet/internet pages, social media presence, advertisements, press releases, etc.

  • Organize internal and external meetings, site visits and special events as applicable. Assists with DE&I Counsel meetings provide administrative support such as managing agendas, meeting minutes, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related field from an accredited university

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: None Required

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of and experience in building and advancing institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives for leadership and staff.

  • Skill and experience using database tools, development of ad hoc reports and data extraction as well as demonstrated familiarity with the statistical software.

  • Skill in handling issues in a complex organizational setting.

  • Skill in conflict resolution and adept at finding win-win solutions to difficult problems.

  • Ability to manage change while building and supporting initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and take ideas and projects from incept to completion.

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.

  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders and work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to engage diverse staff.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $88,400.00 to $117,228.80
