Job Description

Operating Title

Dispatcher Positions, Part-Time, Non-Benefited

Summary of Position

Keene State College’s Department of Campus Safety is seeking reliable candidates to serve as part-time dispatchers in the Campus Safety communications center. The communication center operates 24 hours, seven days a week, and is staffed through various shift assignments. This position is primarily for evening shifts during the week, (3 PM to 11 PM or 5 PM to 3 AM), weekend evenings, and holidays. Many shifts are scheduled for set hours; however, some degree of flexibility may be available depending on staffing. Other shifts may become available due to employee sick call-outs, vacations, or training opportunities. The Dispatcher positions are part-time non-benefited with a starting salary of $20.00/hour.

Dispatchers perform a valuable service for the College by serving as its primary point of contact, and preferred communication resource when addressing campus incidents. This position may be an excellent opportunity for someone who is considering a position in public safety and seeks to gain insight and experience in the field, and/or someone who enjoys working and interacting with the public.

The dispatcher will be expected to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in the event of an emergency and will be expected to contact police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency personnel when needed. The dispatcher will be required to utilize access control technologies to secure College buildings and provide emergency notification using emergency broadcast technologies during emergencies. This position is not a designated emergency (911) call center; however, the dispatcher may be the first point of contact with the public during the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities include answering in-person inquiries at the dispatch window, telephone, switchboard, and electronic inquiries or requests for services; issuing temporary parking permits; monitoring access control, alarm, and closed-circuit television monitoring equipment; and dispatching Campus Safety officers in the field via radio transmissions. Dispatchers also enter calls for service into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and utilize the College’s student and employee database.
