Responsibilities*

The Kresge Hearing Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in research.  The Apostolides laboratory studies neurophysiology of central auditory circuits using electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging.  Successful candidate will perform behavior experiments with mice, perform stereotaxic survival surgeries, manage the animal (rat+mouse) colonies, prepare standard lab buffers and acute brain slices for electrophysiology, perform histology, and data analysis. Additional responsibilities may include contributing to in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology/imaging experiments.  The individual will be expected to play an active role in laboratory management such that strong organizational skills are required.  Prior laboratory experience is highly recommended.

Required Qualifications*

  1. HS Diploma or Assoc Degree
  2. Experience in handling of mice or rats is required.
  3. Familiarity with laboratory maintenance and organization and scientific method.
  4. Ability to work independently and to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

 

Desired Qualifications*

  1. BA/BS in neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related field.
  2. 1-2 years of experience with stereotaxic surgery, histological methods, and animal behavior is desired.
  3. Experience with electrophysiology, imaging, and/or computer programming is preferred.

 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
