Position Summary: Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is seeking a diverse pool of applicants to fill a full-time faculty position in the Chemistry Department. JCCC is committed to increasing the diversity of our college community.
The ideal candidate would be expected to instruct students in lecture and lab primarily for General Chemistry I and II. The ideal candidate would need to be able to teach lecture in a variety of formats including face-to-face, hybrid or online starting in Fall 2025. All general chemistry labs are taught face-to-face.
The ideal candidate will perform duties that are expected of a full-time faculty member employed at JCCC. Duties include maintaining office hours, serving on committees (department, division and college-wide), developing and revising curriculum, developing and implementing assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in professional developmental opportunities, collaborating with faculty, staff and stakeholders from across the College and community and other duties as assigned. While not required, faculty have the opportunity to travel for professional development (nationally and internationally), engage in grant and publishing opportunities, and be actively involved in independent or course-based research with students.
JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS. Known for its museums, restaurants, music and art scenes, Overland Park is part of the greater Kansas City Metro area. Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Chemistry or related discipline with 18 hours of graduate level coursework in Chemistry.
- Computer literacy including ability to communicate, develop teaching materials, and enter grades electronically using a learning management system.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the use of appropriate computer software.
- Demonstrate fluency in written and oral communications.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the use of small equipment like pH meters and spectrophotometers.
- Two years of college-level teaching experience in chemistry courses (lecture and lab).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Chemistry or related discipline with 18 hours of graduate level coursework in Chemistry.
- Familiarity of common instruments such as NMR, UV-VIS, AA, FTIR, MS, GC-MS, or HPLC.
- Community college teaching experience in chemistry courses (lecture and lab).
- Research experience with undergraduate students (independent or course-based).
