Research Technologist
Job Description
After entry-level training under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor, we are seeking a Research Technologist who will be responsible for performing assays, experimental techniques, programming, and clinical research tasks in the study of HIV and long COVID in a research laboratory. Additional responsibilities will include contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic techniques to perform experiments associated with immunology, serology, sequencing, and/or virology.
- These may require basic blood separation, PCR and droplet digital PCR, next-generation sequencing library preparation and pipeline analysis, labeling and assay methods such as ELISA, the use of monoclonal and/or polyclonal antibodies and other associated specialized laboratory methods including tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
- May perform work in a BSL-3 laboratory.
- Operates basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, spectrophotometer, light microscope, PCR machine, and/or utilizes laminar flow hood.
- This person may also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as droplet digital PCR, flow cytometer, thermal cycler, pipettes, and spectrophotometer.
- Operation of lab computers for data entry.
- Rigorous documentation of experimental planning, experimental methods, and experimental results is updated on a daily basis.
- Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, and alignment.
- Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt, maintains invoices, and keeps track of reagent and other spending.
- Additional responsibilities related to the daily laboratory operations will be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience is preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($39,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
