We are looking for someone who brings a commitment and passion to rare diseases and helping to improve patient outcomes.

This pivotal role will manage a global network of clinicians, researchers, patient advocacy organizations, and other key stakeholders. You will be a vital resource for patient families, foster public-private partnerships, engage with policy stakeholders, and drive collaborative research and advocacy initiatives with other organizations to improve outcomes for individuals with rare diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

External Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, clinicians, industry partners, government agencies, and patient advocacy groups.
  • Lead initiatives to influence and advocate for policies benefiting the rare disease community.
  • Pursue and manage public-private partnerships to enhance rare disease research and treatment innovation.
  • Establish and support global research and advocacy collaborations with other rare disease organizations.
  • Represent the University at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, foundations, and corporate partners.

Program Development and Management:

  • Collaborate with Executive Directors and the Director of Patient Advocacy Education and Outreach to support the development and implementation of programs addressing gaps in rare disease research and advocacy.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to provide a comprehensive resource for the patient community.
  • Integrate patient perspectives into research and advocacy efforts.
  • Monitor and evaluate program progress, preparing reports for stakeholders.


Communication and Outreach:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy to elevate the University’s rare disease initiatives.
  • Oversee content creation for the Center’s websites, newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Organize and participate in outreach events, seminars, and symposia to promote collaboration among global experts.

Administrative and Financial Management:

  • Assist in budget preparation and resource allocation for the Center and the Patient Advocacy Initiative.
  • Support and collaborate with grant administration, including proposal preparation, submission, and reporting.
  • Help ensure compliance with University, state, and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health, life sciences, medical research, or a related field preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and partnership management skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing research projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities with the capability to manage multiple projects.
  • Passion for rare disease research and advocacy with a commitment to improving patient outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in external engagement and network building in healthcare or research.
  • In-depth understanding of the rare disease landscape and challenges faced by the community.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in public health, life sciences, medical research, or a related field preferred
