Job Description

 

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

The Coordinator of Title IX, Access, and Inclusion serves as a member of the Student Services leadership team. The Coordinator leads and directs a comprehensive and integrated student engagement program to enhance students’ sense of belonging. The Coordinator also oversees daily operations of Student Activities, Disability Services, and Title IX areas of the college.

 
Job Duties:
  • Serves as the College’s Title IX Deputy Coordinator.
  • Oversees Title IX policies and protocols to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.
  • Coordinates the college’s disability services program for students; provides a comprehensive disability services program that lends appropriate support to both students requesting accommodations and faculty & staff in need of consultation for supporting their students.
  • May provide academic advising to students with disabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations related to student rights and responsibilities, Title IX and ADA.
  • Collaborates across divisions and institutions to boost campus engagement and co-curricular involvement for students.
  • Leads student engagement activities on campus and assists with strategic objectives related to student retention.
  • Fosters a vibrant and inclusive student life by developing engaging programs/activities and initiatives that promote leadership and community involvement.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports student data, event data, and divisional data.
  • Chairs and serve on various committees.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of, training in, and experience with disability services laws, state and federal regulations, including Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the ability to translate these laws and regulations to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of the role of assistive technology in higher education setting
  • Understanding of academic advising needs of students and program requirement of institutional academic programs of study.
  • Knowledge of available support resources, both institutional and community-based.
  • Knowledge of student activity planning and engagement.
  • Ability to effectively serve a very diverse student population and work with professional staff and faculty, requiring strong counseling, mentoring, teaching, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a high level of professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students.
  • Excellent customer service skills including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through.
  • Effective problem-solving and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize duties.
  • Proficiency in use of technology including Microsoft 365.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to assist students in navigating college processes and connecting with college resources.
  • Ability to set and meet objectives as well as the ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to interpret psychological tests and to develop individual accommodation plans.
  • Ability to make administrative judgements on sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and/or coordinate projects.

Additional Considerations
    • A Master’s degree with a concentration in Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling or relevant field.
    • One or more certifications to demonstrate training in ADA and/or Title IX.
    • Experience in a community college setting.
    • Functional experience with Oracle PeopleSoft and Student Information Systems (SIS).
    • Experience leading departmental staff and working with academic faculty & staff.
    • Experience establishing student activity plans, purchasing and budgeting.
