Digital Analytics Associate

Job Description

We are seeking a Digital Analytics Associate who will analyze and synthesize data from an array of various sources to provide strategic insights and recommendations to the Strategic Communications team and other internal stakeholders within University Communications and Johns Hopkins University leadership. The ideal candidate will be able to shift nimbly from regular reporting cadences (I.e., weekly/monthly/quarterly) to assisting with acute crisis communications situations on tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will be capable of creating reports with graphics and visualizations with similarly strong abilities in verbal and written communications to explain trends to non-technical audiences.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Track and analyze the wide range of public external communications that impact the University across earned media and online platforms, ranging from news outlets and social networks to forums and blogs.
  • Provide audience insight and digital performance reports and data visualizations to University Communications teams and help support a culture of analytics research, discussion, and strategic goal setting.
  • Create and distribute online conversation insights and dashboards within the Office of Communications and to designated individuals or offices within the University.
  • Collaborate with the department’s media, editorial, creative, and digital teams in using insights to inform broader communications strategies, and to help shape the University’s media approach.
  • Tracks issues and potential crises of importance to the University, and, in an actual crisis, provides timely information and analysis concerning online conversations to inform the University’s response.
  • Develops new digital methods as needed to help make the internal reporting process more efficient, including use of automation technologies.
  • Works closely with the department’s vendors of analytics software and services and stays informed of industry best-practices for performance reporting and relevant online tools.


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in website traffic analysis using Google Analytics and/or similar applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and translate that analysis into specific and actionable recommendations, reports, dashboards, and other kinds of data visualizations for non-technical key stakeholders and decision-maker.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Four years related experience in digital communications, with an emphasis on media monitoring, social media listening, reporting, data analytics and visualizations required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education preferred but not required.
  • Three plus years using social listening and media monitoring platforms, such as Meltwater, Brand watch, Cision or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Digital marketing analytics experience (organic and/or paid).
  • Certain programming languages as applicable to this position are a strong plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Google Data Studio and/or Microsoft PowerBI.
