ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

As full-time faculty, this position’s fundamental responsibilities include teaching courses in the business and accounting programs (a yearly course load of 27 credits) and fulfilling any accompanying duties as an Instructor at Lackawanna College. Faculty members are encouraged and expected to contribute to the strategic vision for their departments and committees and participate in college-wide, academic affairs, and division-level initiatives. Faculty members also serve as academic advisors. Faculty are encouraged to think creatively and innovatively to propose ways to enhance and/or maintain programs and courses within their divisions.

This position reports to the Academic Dean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1) Delivers effective preparation and instruction in a wide range of business courses using contemporary methods with a strong outcomes-based teaching model.

2) Teaches associate and bachelor level courses Principles of Accounting I and II, Managerial Accounting, Accounting with Quickbooks, Intermediate Accounting I and II, and Forensic Accounting.

3) Develops course materials and makes them accessible to students through an online learning system.

4) Conducts student learning outcome assessments and implements pedagogical and curricular changes accordingly.

5) Actively participates in departmental affairs and division-level planning.

6) Aids in the evaluation and development of the business and accounting curricula and program assessment.

7) Serves as an academic advisor for students during the semester.

8) Encourages students to become active participants in the fields of business and accounting through internships, employment opportunities, networking, service learning, etc.

9) Develops new courses to meet the changing needs of an increasingly more technological workplace and to best serve the needs of our students.

10) Continues professional and educational growth.

11) Contributes to the College and community through participation in College functions and events.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

1) Demonstrated successful classroom experience at the two- or four-year college level using engaging, meaningful lessons and assessments, and comfort with including technology in the classroom.

2) Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective working relationships with students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

3) Knowledge of current trends in post-secondary education and a willingness to incorporate them into lessons, materials, and assessments.

4) Proficient computer skills.

5) Excellent oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a business-related field required (doctoral degrees preferred).
  • Potential candidates may possess a Master’s degree in Education with an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting
  • Degree in accounting preferred
  • Degrees in Progress: To be conferred on or before May 2025 will be considered, provided the applicant also submits required information (transcripts, course program, etc.).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ teaching experience at the college level in business,
