This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at on Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all and focuses on health, diversity, inclusion, and social equity in everything we do. We believe this starts in the workplace, where we actively strive to ensure a sense of belonging for everyone and honor the idea that through difference we are better together. In working to fulfill that vision we are comprised of more than 110 primary faculty and academics, 25 secondary faculty, and 200 staff members and provide mentorship and instruction to 225+ postgraduate and 650+ undergraduate students. We conduct research and instruction in public health disciplines such as behavioral medicine, biostatistics and bioinformatics, epidemiology, global health, health policy, health equity, public mental health, environmental and climate health, and preventive medicine, totaling ~$125M in grants and contracts, 6 degree programs, and housing five recharge cores providing services to UC San Diego and external customers. We engage in research and teaching collaborations with many partners across the Health Sciences and UCSD, and partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School.

The Advanced Research Practitioner takes a leadership role in independently managing and developing a large, complex academic or research program of high visibility in one or more of the Public Health disciplines of health behavior, biostatistics, epidemiology, global health, health policy, health equity, public mental health, environmental and climate health. Develops vision and establishes agenda to achieve research objectives. Oversees all elements of program administration. Collaborates across multiple research groups. Provides leadership in identifying outreach services. With faculty formulates program strategies and goals, directs long-term planning, and develops policies and procedures. Defines and implements publications program in support of the overall program. Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization and is recognized as an expert externally in the field. Writes grant proposals, components of grant proposals, and/or manuscripts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctoral degree in a related field (PhD, MD, DrPH, etc.) and Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Academic background and recognized expertise in selected area of research.

  • Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution for handling administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Expert oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated expertise building collaborations between academia, industrial and/or governmental agencies.

  • Leadership experience in academic and/or government agencies.

  • Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff and students.

  • Expert fundraising experience.

  • Expert negotiation skills.

  • Postdoctoral or medical residency training related to Public Health.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
