Job Description

The University of Notre Dame University Operations, Events, and Safety division is currently hiring for the position of Cook 2 within Saint Mary’s College Dining Hall. The University Operations, Events, and Safety division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.

Why this position?
The Cook 2 is a skilled cook position, and is responsible for producing recipes and following accepted culinary practices. This position will report to the Saint Mary’s College Executive Chef and will support the mission and goals of a “Best in Class” dining program. As a culinary production member of a dynamic operation, the Cook 2 will support the daily culinary operations. He/she will complete general assignments related to the assembly and preparation/cooking of specific items, through standards of service and hospitality to ensure the Saint Mary’s College community and guests with the very best in both food and service. This culinary position is critical to ensuring all diners experience excellent food production and service, by demonstrating responsiveness to the changing needs and desires of customers. The Cook 2 produces food and is responsible for following recipes and accepted culinary practices, participating in general assignments, food preparation, supporting special/catered events within the dining hall or elsewhere on campus, and for performing tasks related to the appearance, safety and sanitation of food production and service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate basic level of kitchen skills, and have good customer service skills
  • Must be able to train service staff on basic functions of service style within unit

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe, Aller-Train and National Restaurant Association Sanitation certifications required
