Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the Director of
Fundraising Communications fulfills the key leadership role of overseeing the
department’s integrated marketing and communications efforts to drive increases
in annual fundraising.
As the Fundraising Communications team leader, the Director works closely with
internal and external partners to design, implement, analyze, and continuously
refine the programs for print
and digital communications for the Development and University Relations division.
The Director is tasked with working in support of and across sub-teams to
develop strategy, manage the production of communications-related materials
and digital assets (including serving as the department’s principal relationship
manager for select third-party vendors and consultants), and ensure consistency
in quality and messaging across the department. In addition, the Director serves
as the department’s primary liaison with the University’s central Communications
office and requires some travel and evening/weekend work.
Essential Functions
∙Develops a comprehensive strategy for the growth of unrestricted annual
giving, targeting donors in the $1-$25,000 range.
∙Creates and implements a multi-channel approach that effectively
engages Fordham alumni, parents, and friends to drive new, renewed, and
increased funds.
∙Oversees, develops, and/or manages content, production, and distribution
schedules for Fundraising Communications’ print and digital media
publications.
∙Collaborates closely with senior leaders and colleagues across the
institution to translate strategic objectives into actionable tactics.
∙Leads the development and implementation of marketing strategies and
tactics to achieve the University’s unrestricted annual income and growth
objectives.
∙Formulates a targeted strategy for promoting and marketing the
President’s Club, focusing on expanding and growing this vital group of
donors.
∙Serves as the project lead and manages strategy for websites and micro-
sites for Development and University Relations fundraising
communications, including for specific fundraising campaigns.
∙Manages and oversees Fundraising Communications budget, ensuring
responsible allocation of resources to support the effective execution of
annual giving strategies and program execution of annual giving strategies
and programs effectively.
∙Conducts robust data analysis to drive future strategies, collaborating with
colleagues to develop robust reporting and analytical tools to analyze
current fundraising strategies and inform future efforts.
∙Develops metrics reports and data analyses on communications, making
recommendations based on these analyses and incorporating best
practices and new ideas.

Management Responsibilities
Provides strategic leadership and supervises others who supervise. Responsible
for hiring, training, developing, managing performance, administering corrective
action, makes compensation decisions and for managing strategic views at a
high level.
Additional Functions
∙Collaborates with colleagues throughout the Development and University
Relations division to ensure effective, efficient, and coordinated
fundraising strategies.
∙Assists, where needed, in reunions, Homecoming, and other important
university-wide special events.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
∙Bachelor’s degree
∙Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in
development.
∙Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
∙Demonstrated and successful experience using various charitable
solicitation and/or sales vehicles (direct mail, phone, email, and
crowdfunding).
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
∙Demonstrated ability to set clear priorities, design and complete complex
projects, and manage time well without close day-to-day supervision.
∙Knowledge about trends in higher education and social media concerning
alumni engagement.
∙Proficiency in social media platforms, broadcast email, event
management, and online community software.
∙Ability to adopt new technology and train colleagues on use.
∙Ability to set objectives and performance standards, provide constructive
feedback, and achieve established program goals.
∙Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) while also being a
good listener.
∙Strong analytical skills and professional judgment.
∙Initiative, sound judgment, consistency of output, and timeliness of follow-
through.
∙Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to
the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
∙Experience working effectively in a complex higher education setting,
developing and sustaining productive and effective relationships with
alumni, donors, faculty, parents, volunteers, colleagues, and senior
leadership.
Minimum Starting Salary: $115,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $135,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
