General Information:

The Department of Finance and Business Law in the College of Business at James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance position to begin Fall 2025.

About the Department: The Finance and Business Law Department is staffed by 17 full-time faculty with 14 faculty in finance and 3 faculty in Business Law. The department serves both Finance and Quantitative Finance majors and college business law courses. FIN & BLAW faculty have received numerous awards and recognitions for outstanding teaching, service, and research. JMU subscribes to both the Standard & Poor’s Compustat, the University of Chicago’s Center for Research in Securities Prices (CRSP), MSCI ESG KLD and NYSE TAQ databases through WRDS, and students and faculty have access to Bloomberg through the Gaglioti Capital Markets Laboratory. Interdisciplinary and applied research is encouraged.

About the College: The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. The College includes the Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Professional Selling, Small Business Development Center, Capital Markets Lab, Madison Consulting, and other programs focused on outreach and engagement with the business community. Our very successful alumni hold C-suite positions at major corporations including SAP, Fidelity, Bank of America, IBM, California Pizza Kitchen, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, KPMG, and other Fortune 500 companies and readily engage with the College. The faculty are teacher-scholars who are collaborative and supportive colleagues. The College has almost 3,800 students in the AACSB programs and is highly regarded across the JMU campus community.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching needs include Financial Analytics and Data Science, Investments, or Corporate Finance.

 

 

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Finance (or ABD in a Ph.D. program in Finance with a dissertation defense by December 2025), preferably from an AACSB-accredited institution. CFA or FRM designation is a plus. Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to scholarly research are required. The successful candidate will be expected to engage regularly in service to the Department, the College, the University, and the profession.
