We are currently hiring for a Human Resources Specialist. The location of this position is flexible within our Midwest region.

The Human Resources Specialist is an ideal role for someone who wants to grow within the field of HR. This is a non-exempt role that supports a variety of HR functions including but not limited to managing digital employee records throughout the career cycle of our nearly 350 employees throughout our 13-state region, managing HR programs that are in alignment with American Heart Association’s talent management strategy, and compiling data for various talent management reports.

The Midwest region includes: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all employee records, digitally. This includes entering, requesting, monitoring, and auditing employee information in our Human Capital Management System, Workday, and manually updating organization charts ensuring employee records are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Serve as the region lead on employee wellness. Work to garner employee participation in the Heart Association's wellness program to reach desired participation goals including recruiting regional wellness ambassadors and managing the regions wellness committee.
  • Assist with position management by tracking open, repurposed, and temporary positions. Work with the national HR center of excellence to create and edit budgeted positions.
  • Manage and monitor the onboarding and offboarding process for all new hires, ensuring technology is set up/terminated and all pre-hire and post-hire onboarding tasks are complete including completing 1-9 verifications.
  • Serves as the region’s liaison for the national internship program. Coordinate the onboarding and offboarding of all regional interns. Collaborate with other HR team members and leaders to ensure a positive intern experience.
  • Manage the region’s leave process – answering staff inquiries, tracking all leaves, reporting, and following up on expected leave returns.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute weekly, quarterly and adhoc reports, including turnover, overtime, performance review completion, employee engagement, and compliance.
  • Monitor the completion of all required compliance courses. Communicate with managers and staff as needed to ensure 100% completion.
  • Manage the HR inbox, responding to staff inquiries. Provide HR related customer service to employees and serve as region liaison to My HR Connection.
  • Build and distribute online department surveys as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically requires minimum 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • MS Office proficient. Experience using MS SharePoint and advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard Human Resources practices and office procedures are preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and work with diverse individuals/groups.
  • Experience using a Human Capital Management System preferred.
  • Experience speaking in front of groups preferred.
