Research Program Assistant II
Job Description
We are seeking a Research Program Assistant II to assist with coordinating protocol implementation, community education, and engagement activities for multiple research projects within the Behavioral and Implementation Research Center on Health (formerly Adherence Research Center). BIRCH is a leader in the design of innovative interventions supporting behavior change to improve health and healthcare delivery within the community and other stakeholder settings. This position will support research activities including, screening and recruiting eligible participants for study participation. This position will also be engaged in community engagement efforts and education with public schools and Head Start programs.
The position will work independently and under the direction of the research supervisor to ensure successful completion of the clinical research study.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Research Activities
- Complete screening process in community and clinic settings to identify potential participants.
- Recruit and consent potential study participants according to protocols’ inclusion and exclusion criteria; be knowledgeable of the protocols so that study activities are completed correctly.
- Ensure proper informed consent from each study participant is obtained prior to entering study; ensure proper storage and documentation of consent forms in participants’ research records.
- Track visit completion, inform them of upcoming scheduled clinic appointments, and manage study procedures concerns and/or issue that arise during visit assessments.
- Conduct and track follow-up assessments in a timely fashion. Troubleshoot participant difficulties with assessment completion.
- Complete status update reports accurately and in a timely fashion to inform the research manager
- Collaborate with the research team in the development of research instruments and forms.
- Collect research data and manage study databases.
- Abstract data from paper and electronic medical records, conduct baseline and follow-up interviews over the phone or in person according to written procedure manuals.
- Input, organize, edit, and verify accuracy of data in databases.
- Process, transport, package and prepare study materials for storage, testing, or shipping.
- Adhere to guidelines regarding the sensitivity and confidential nature of patient information.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings to report on screening, recruitment, and data collection progress and resolution of problems.
- Process participant payments and maintain accurate financial records.
- Perform other study related or administrative duties as assigned or requested.
Community Engagement & Health Education
- Collaborate with the Health Educator in the delivery of education via in person or remote training and workshops to community sites (staff, caregivers, and children).
- Attend and provide support during community engagement events including, but not limited to, caregiver workshops, health fairs, and staff education.
- Obtain high level of knowledge of health topics associated with the seminars to be able to address community concerns and questions on these topics.
- Assist with the development of education materials.
- Assist with writing and editing education procedures
- Collaborate with the Health Educator, study investigators, external agencies, community partners, and other partners on development of education materials.
- Assist with contact between multiple collaborators and disciplines, including physicians, clinic administrative staff, Head Start programs, and schools.
- Assist with the coordination of services and the communication of pertinent information to all study participants.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
- Two years related experience
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($20.75 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
