Postdoctoral Scientist for Mechanism of Heart Failure Research

Multiple fully funded Postdoctoral research positions are available in Dr. Hind Lal lab at the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Birmingham, USA. The applicant will be involved in studies of myocardial disease mechanisms in various preclinical heart failure models. These include myocardial infarction (MI), pressure load (TAC), ischemia-reperfusion injury (I/R), and cancer therapeutics-induced cardiac dysfunction (cardio-oncology). To have a flavor of our research, applicants are referred to recent publications from our lab [PMIDs: 36625265, 36052698, 33965510, 31581792, 30847418]. The lab employs various techniques, including noninvasive echocardiographic assessment of cardiac function, genetically modified transgenic and knockout mouse models, surgical models of heart failure, cardiac cell isolation, flow cytometry, and various other molecular techniques. Prior experience in CVD research, FACS techniques and data analysis, mouse genetics, animal handling, and bioinformatics, would be a distinct advantage. Highly motivated individuals who wish to develop careers in academia are encouraged to apply. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who would like to prepare himself/herself for a solid scientific career in cardiac disease research. Contingent upon performance, the lab will encourage the applicant to apply for independent fellowship and, subsequently career transition grant as his/her career progresses.

The applicant must have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field with no more than 2-3 years of postdoctoral training. We highly encourage the fress PhD awardees to apply. The candidate should be independent, self-motivated, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work cooperatively on a research team is a must. It will be essential for the applicant to participate in the planning and execution of experiments, data analysis & interpretation, preparing manuscripts and posters, presenting at national meetings, and applying for fellowships and grants. The appointment will be full-time for 12 months, with annual renewal contingent upon performance.
