Position Summary

Reporting to the University Post Office Manager, the Post Office Clerk provides mail services at the Rose Hill campus.

 

The Schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Makes primary and one or more secondary distribution of incoming mail to the various offices on campus and to student boxes.
  • Records and signs for all accountable mail items received from the Post Office and notifies the appropriate department offices.
  • Records UPS/FedEx and other commercial shipping and mail deliveries to students.
  • Corrects student mail which was incorrectly addressed and sorts for re-delivery.
  • Sells postage stamps, stamped paper, postal cards and domestic money orders.
  • Accepts from and makes window delivery to patrons of parcel post, insured, registered, certified, and express mail.
  • Handles UPS packages and other deliveries through a computerized system.
  • Makes collection of required postage due, when applicable, issues necessary receipts and delivers general mail to patrons.
  • Verifies first, third and fourth class mailings both for domestic and foreign mails.
  • Issues and cashes domestic money orders.
  • Must submit, on a daily basis, Post Office Form 1412, “Financial Daily Report”, submitting all monies and fees collected to the Office of Finance, General Post Office, Bronx, NY 10451.
  • Knowledge in using Domestic and International Mail Manual, National Zip Code Directory and Postal Bulletins.
  • Able to process mail through computerized package tracking system.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in postal or mail room positions.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Flexibility with schedule as needed to ensure processing of mail.
  • Must be able to read English and follow written instructions.
  • Must have the ability to understand and comply with written and verbal instructions and give understandable information in verbal and written form.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Must be able to lift packages of 70 or more pounds.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

         

Minimum Biweekly Salary for Internal Applicants with 3 or more years of service: $1,932.80

Maximum Biweekly Salary for Internal Applicants with 3 or more years of service: $2,416.00

Minimum Biweekly Salary for New Employees: $1,932.80

Maximum Biweekly Salary for New Employees: $2,416.00
