Southampton Business School (SBS) is placed at the centre of the University of Southampton, a top 100 University in the world and a founder member of the UK Russell Group University. SBS hosts a vibrant and diverse community of scholars and students. It has grown substantially in breadth and size in the recent years, covering all core business and management disciplines via six Departments: Accounting, Banking and Finance, Decision Analytics and Risk, Digital and Data-Driven Marketing, Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour, and Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship. SBS academics conduct cutting edge research and publish consistently in world-class journals. Research activity within SBS is coordinated through ten multidisciplinary research centres. The longest established research centre is the Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems (CORMSIS), which ranks top 50 (QS) in the world. Building on its continued success, SBS is now ranked in the top quartile of the research-intensive business schools in the UK, with a strong research environment which is ranked 12th (REF2021) in the UK. The School has an ambitious growth plan, which includes investments in people and facilities. The school has recently relocated to a state of art business building.
Building on this success, in July 2022, the School secured AMBA 5-year re-accreditation of the MBA programme which is ranked 13th in the UK (QS data) and its AACSB accreditation was recently re-extended for another full period of 5 years. A member of the UNPRM, our commitment to the SDGs was also recognised through the GRI accreditation. The school holds the CABS Small Business Charter award in recognition of the SBS’ world-class support to students and local businesses, including the development of student entrepreneurial skills and the support and development of wider economic and social opportunities for business. Our placement team has been recognised as one of the best in the UK, demonstrating our commitment to the student experience. In 2022 our accounting & finance students were recognised as the global winner in the global Bloomberg challenge demonstrating our commitment to excellence. In 2024, the subject of Accounting & Finance enters the top 100 group in the global QS ranking. About the Department of Accounting
The Department of Accounting brings together internationally renowned academics who undertake research into, and teach, a wide range of accounting and finance-related topics. The Department is supported by the research centre: Accounting Accountability and Governance (CRAAG), where staff are actively engaged in cross-disciplinary research based on diverse sets of data, theories, empirics and methodologies. We focus on research, education, and business collaborations. Sustainable practices and corporate governance are at the heart of our activities. Currently, comprising of 31 academics, the Department’s teaching and research interests include corporate governance, sustainability accounting, financial accounting and reporting, market-based accounting, non-financial and narrative disclosure, management control systems, corporate finance, auditing and assurance, human capital accounting, Islamic accounting and finance, tax avoidance, hybrid organizations and NGOs, accounting education and history, and emerging technologies in accounting and finance.
We design and deliver a range of postgraduate and undergraduate degrees. We continuously improve our courses to align with industry standards and the latest research. All of our programmes are accredited. We are ranked in the top 100 accounting and finance department in the world based on the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.
We have string industry connections and partner with business to guide and support their sustainability reporting. Our team includes sustainability professionals certified by the Global Reporting Initiative(GRI).
About you
As a lecturer, you will play a central role in furthering the research of the department. You will bring to the role a strong professional reputation in teaching and research, including the ability to produce world class research through publications in leading academic journals. You may have some experience of research grant activity. You will act as a leader and ambassador for us across management and enterprise or other engagement activities.
Experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is essential, as is your ability to engage and inspire students and colleagues alike. Whether developing your own teaching approaches, acting as supervisor to your students or contributing to the effective administration of our department, you will enjoy scope to innovate and make a significant impact on teaching and research.
