Job Description
The Department of Social Sciences (Sociology Program) at Saint Augustine’s University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor/Professor position. The successful applicant must possess an established record of and/or show potential for strong teaching of survey and advanced undergraduate sociology courses.
Courses include:
    • Race Relations
    • Sociological Statistics
    • Sociological Seminar

 


Duties assigned by the Chair of the Department of Social Sciences may include but are not
limited to:
  • Teaching face-to-face or online sociology courses during fall, spring, and summer semesters
  • Proactively engaging with and supporting the success of online students
  • Proactively engaging with and supporting the success of students
  • Passing the Blackboard Certification Training offered through Saint Augustine’s University
  • Being available for students via face-to-face or virtual office hours
  • Participating in departmental, school, and university meetings (encouraged)
  • Developing and managing course materials from learning objectives and selected textbook provided by the department chair.

Saint Augustine’s University (SAU), drawing on its rich legacy as an access institution, is a student-focused, comprehensive educational institution that produces outstanding graduates prepared for personal and professional success. SAU was established in 1867 in Raleigh, NC by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. A four-year liberal arts university with an average enrollment of approximately 1,000, SAU sits on 105 lush acres just north of Downtown Raleigh, NC. The institution offers more than 20 undergraduate degrees and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in sociology or closely related field is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in sociology or closely related field with 18 graduate credits in sociology is acceptable.
  • Work experience in the field is highly desired.
  • Candidates with prior teaching experience in higher education will be given preference. Competencies/Skills Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate sociology courses
  • Demonstrated ability to be an excellent teacher
  • Communicates effectively to all groups through both oral and written mediums
  • Maintains confidentiality and attention to detail are essential
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet Demonstrates and adheres to high ethical principles to protect students
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Exercises independent judgement but will seek counsel when necessary
  • Knowledge of Saint Augustine’s University’s policies, and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.
