Human Resources Generalist, Employee Relations and Policy

Overview:
WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist, with a focus on Employee Relations and Policy. This position provides guidance to employees and supervisors for employee relations issues that affect morale, motivation, engagement, and efficiency. Partners with employees to educate and work through difficult conversations. Responsible for conducting incident and disciplinary investigations and facilitating resolution of employee relations problems. Manages exit survey process, and assists with preparing timely reports for leadership. Provides impactful human resources partnership focusing on creating and revising HR policy, practices, and processes that support organizational effectiveness, employee development, coaching and people-leader enablement with a strong focus on DEI and belonging. Will lead HR policy creation in alignment with HR and senior leadership, HR metrics and reporting, and affirmative action planning.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and presents supervisor training modules as needed.
- Provides guidance to employees and supervisors for employee relations issues that affect morale, motivation, engagement, and efficiency.
- Fosters communication between employees and management by facilitating mechanisms for raising questions and expressing concerns without fear ofretaliation, and mediating situations where appropriate.
- Manages the processes for compliants hotline and workplace complaints and concerns, including consistent tracking and monitoring of concerns/complaints; and appropriately triaging and disseminating information to appropriate stakeholders.
- Manages incoming and current staff complaints and investigations.
- Creates investigative plans, executes investigations timely, and provides clear communication to all parties involved.
- Coordinates and conducts interviews.
- Maintains detailed, consistent, and accurate records; secures and maintains relevant evidence and documentation.
- Conducts analysis, and produces well-written investigation summaries and reports upon conclusion of investigation.
- Conducts and manages all exit surveys at termination of employment, and tracks data surrounding the exit interview process.
- Maintains the complaints and investigations spreadsheet and folders, and meets with relevant stakeholders within Human Resources for updates on a regular basis.
- Leads the HR policy creation and revision process, by collaborating with senior leadership; provides education and awareness by communicating to the organization on new policies and policy change.
- Responsible for the organization’s affirmative action plan.
- Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
- Serves as as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent, relevant work experience required.
- Minimum three (3) years of related work experience in human resources or related field including employee relations, conducting workplace investigations, and writing detailed, professional reports.
- Broad knowledge of human resources functions including HR policy and procedures, labor law compliance, salary administration required.
- Experience in healthcare or higher education setting preferred.
- Strong investigatory skills with attention to accuracy and detail required.
- Skilled in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, mediation, and effective interviewing.
- Experience with statistics and or quantitative methods commonly utilized in HR metrics required.
- Senior Professional Human Resources/Professional Human Resources through HRCI and/or SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP through Society for Human Resource Management certification preferred.
- Strong communication skills on all levels: listening, verbal, written, and presentation.
- Highly proficient using Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Adobe Acrobat, email, scanning and document management software.
- Ability to establish and build effective rapport and trusting relationships.
- Ability to investigate subjectively and determine appropriate stakeholder involvement and proper timing.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions in a manner consistent with WMed values.
- Maintain a high degree of integrity to hold absolute confidentiality in all matters related to Human Resources.
- Strong commitment to a diverse and inclusive work and learning environment.
- Highly organized, and able to prioritize and plan time accordingly in a fast-paced environment.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to employment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
