The Unocic Research Group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to conduct fundamental and applied research in the area of advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy, in situ/operando STEM, and Cryo STEM of nano and energy materials.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy research with the probe corrected Thermo Fisher Scientific Titan S/TEM, Thermo Fisher Scientific Talos S/TEM, and Thermo Fisher Scientific Spectra Ultra STEM (coming in summer 2025) in the Analytical Instrumentation Facility at North Carolina State University
- Advance microscopy research with aberration corrected STEM, 4D-STEM, in situ/operando STEM, and analytical STEM-EELS-EDS
- Develop novel methods for in situ/operando STEM experimentation
- Implement Machine Learning workflows within in situ STEM experiments
Work Schedule
Standard 8am-5pm but may be flexible based on instrument availabilityDepartment Required Skills
- A PhD in materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related
discipline completed within the last five years - A strong background in aberration corrected STEM and in situ microscopy
- Experience with Python for data analysis and machine learning
- Experience with FIB preparation, mechanical polishing, and ion milling
- An excellent record of productive and creative research as demonstrated by
publications in peer-reviewed journals - Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in
English to an international scientific audience - Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to collaboratively
with teams of researchers
