Employer Engagement Specialist - Special Projects (Temporary)
Job Description
Position Summary
Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor/manager, provide administrative support of the department’s efforts to manage, cultivate and steward new and existing employer partners. In this role, the Employer Engagement Specialist will support Career Education projects which have the following overarching goals:
- Increase paid internship opportunities for Career Education students, and particularly for Disproportionately Impacted populations (Native American, African American, Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander).
- Increase enrollment in Los Rios Work Experience courses.
- Increase employer participation in the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP).
Successful applicants will understand and apply LRCCD values of diversity, equity and inclusion strategies; have knowledge of employer engagement strategies; and demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.Typical Duties
Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following
- Develop prospects for employer partners in consultation with college faculty and administrators..
- Recruit employers to provide paid internships and jobs, especially for disproportionately impacted (DI) communities.
- Recruit employers for potential work-based learning opportunities, such as tours, classroom presentations and classroom activities, upon the request of Career Education faculty.
- Coordinate and develop activities related to employer engagement consistent with the philosophy and strategic plan of the college and the District.
- Build and maintain relationships with multiple constituents including employer partners, employer partner prospects, faculty, staff, and students to increase understanding of internships, Work Experience, and the LAEP.
- Support the LAEP team by identifying and referring prospective employers to the LAEP Program and assisting with associated paperwork.
- Engage with professional and industry associations (e.g. California Manufacturing Association, Chambers of Commerce, etc.) to promote LAEP, internships and Work Experience programs. Present at meetings when appropriate. Promote the use of the Handshake career services platform and assist employers in use of features such as posting jobs, internships, and career events etc.
- As needed, provide support to departments in serving LAEP eligible and DI students interested in internships.
- Refer students to appropriate staff for job readiness support, such as resume help and interview practice.
- Encourage LAEP eligible and DI students to apply for positions in Handshake. Coordination, Planning & Reporting.
- Apply employer engagement best practices, including those related to employers working with community college students, working with student populations with a strengths-based focus, supporting Disproportionately Impacted populations in the workplace, and the cultural wealth model.
- Participate in college and/or districtwide meetings and collaborate with team members to share resources and coordinate efforts as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development as needed.
- Track and record all employer contacts and progress.
- Provide regular reporting of activities and progress toward goals and objectives, including reporting required by grants supporting internships at Los Rios (LAEP, RERP and SWP).
- Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Completion of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in social science, business, marketing, or a related field.
Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: One year of education is equal to 30 semester units.)
