College Foundation, Inc. (CFI), a non-profit corporation serving North Carolina students and families since 1955, administers education loan programs, several major grant and scholarship programs funded by the State of North Carolina for students attending North Carolina colleges and universities, and the tax-advantaged "529" college savings program on behalf of the NorthCarolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is a free service of the State of North Carolina provided by a collaboration of the NCSEAA, Pathways (the University of North Carolina System, the N.C. Community College System, the N.C. Independent Colleges and Universities, and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction) and CFI. CFNC promotes access to N.C. higher education and assists students with education planning, career planning and applying and paying for college.

Purpose:

The purpose of this remote work-from-home position is to oversee the planning of public/client relations programs and outreach, for the Eastern part of the state, and to support statewide outreach activities. The Regional Outreach Director will build/strengthen strategic partnerships with school districts and college access organizations that support college-going students and supervise Associate Outreach Directors in their region to utilize data for proactive outreach to underserved and critical need schools and communities.

Essential Functions:

  • Leverage college-going data (college apps, FAFSA, RDS) to determine underserved areas in region, and develop targeted outreach plan for team, in conjunction with Associate Outreach Directors.
  • Strengthen asset map to capture all college access and adjacent organizations working in the region. Set priorities for relationships to cultivate/strengthen each year.
  • Manage and develop Associate Outreach Directors in their region, offering coaching, professional development and goals to guide priorities. Lead strategic planning for their area in consultation with Associate Outreach Directors in their region.
  • Provide strategic input of content on the CFNC.org website.
  • Actively participate in social media and outreach efforts in coordination with internal marketing staff and the creative agency designated to promote CFNC. Be available for radio, TV, and other media interviews and programs, videotaping spots to post on CFNC YouTube channel, posting activities and information on an individual business CFNC Facebook page, and participating in special events that promote CFNC. Elevate the work of partners by sharing and commenting on their posts, creating deeper connections with partner organizations.
  • Develop regional trainings and convenings to provide professional development for ed professionals in the latest, research-informed college-going practices. Conduct presentations with regional stakeholders to build public will for college-going/credential attainment.
  • Participate in training sessions and assigned reading to keep informed of current trends in financial aid and other pertinent college access information, as well as loan, grant and savings programs administered by CFI, and NCSEAA’s scholarship and grant opportunities.
  • Utilize contact management software as appropriate to track strategic partnership activity with district leadership, college access organizations operating in the region, community organizations and adjacent organizations (e.g. Junior Achievement, 4-H) that can provide college/career planning for students outside CFNC’s primary service range (8th grade to adult). Prepare reports on outreach activity that shows improvement in struggling areas.
  • Alert Assistant Vice President to any additional new materials that could be useful for promoting CFNC services or resources users of CFNC would find valuable, while understanding that need must be large enough to warrant investment in development.
  • Present the latest research and promising practices at conferences/regional meetings and virtual events to inform/persuade the field on effective outreach and completion strategies.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required, with a preferred major in Education, Marketing, Communications, orSocial Sciences. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
  • 7+ years of experience working in education, non-profit work, college access, marketing, financial aid, and/or higher education.
  • Experience in education, non-profit work, college access organizations, marketing, financial aid, and/or higher education preferred.
  • Public speaking experience
  • Considerable work experience with Microsoft Office products and virtual meeting platforms like Zoom.
  • Experience in and successful ability to work independently
  • Experience managing others in a virtual environment

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of data tracking and reporting, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a data-driven focus.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly as it pertains to public speaking, training sessions, written materials and media interviews.
  • Comfortable utilizing data to inform priorities, and to present data to persuade education stakeholders.
  • Managing subordinates and setting strategic priorities.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Activities/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel throughout assigned area of state independently as scheduled, including consecutive days.
  • Requires long periods of standing and interacting with prospects.
  • Mobility in entering and exiting places of business for programs and visitation.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Pay: $74,000.00 - $76,000.00 per year
