SUMMARY

Supervise peace officers and security officers at various campuses and shifts, and perform other support duties as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervise and assess the conduct and quality of work performance by officers under his/her supervision and recommend positive corrective action if needed.

  2. Provide officers with appropriate administrative and technical support.

  3. Listen and discuss problems with subordinates.

  4. Demonstrate the ability to analyze data and make decisions.

  5. Identify emerging problems and works for their resolution.

  6. Schedule work assignments for police officers and security officers.

  7. Prepare and submit reports as required.

  8. Work closely with college administrators to ensure safety and security at college facilities.

  9. Conduct criminal investigations and submits reports.

  10. Ensure officer compliance with department and Board of Trustees policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

 

EDUCATION

Must be a commissioned police officer of the state of Texas, certified by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.  Photocopy of certificate must accompany application.

 

Must hold an Intermediate Certificate from TCOLE (Photocopy of certification must accompany the application).

 

Advance Peace Officer Certification preferred.

  

EXPERIENCE

Four years of law enforcement service required; including one year supervisory/leadership experience.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Strong observation skills

Must be able to remain calm during stressful situations, emergencies and disturbances and be a member of the emergency response organizations at the assigned location

Must be able to lift and move 150 lbs. without assistance

Must be able to run 100 yards without stopping and be functional upon completion

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Employees in this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment.  Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing and scheduling requirements.
  2. Knowledge of state and local laws
  3. Strong observation skills
  4. Able to communicate effectively with all levels of HCCS personnel
  5. Able to mediate conflicts
  6. Able to communicate effectively in writing
  7. Supervisory skills preferred
